alex flopped down onto his bed, arms folded, his eyebrows forming a frown. where the hell was everybody? he hadn't seen any of his friends in such a long time. it was like the whole academy had been wiped or something. it was weird, and thinking about it scared alex a little. he was mad at himself. alex was a vampire - he shouldn't be scared of anything, especially not something as small as this.
he grabbed his black hoodie, slinging it on over his dark blue t-shirt. as always, he flipped the hood up, grabbed his iPod and left his room, closing the door behind him. alex needed to get out. see if he could find any of his real friends, not just acquaintances, people he could actually talk to. and more importantly, people he wanted to talk to. alex clicked his iPod onto shuffle, and put it in his pocket, placing both headphones in.
after a walk through the academy, alex burst through the academy's main gate, and inhaled large amount of fresh air. that made him feel better. he looked around at the people: his fellow vampires, the werewolves, the wizards and also the ordinary humans. everybody was out, it was a pretty nice day. still, alex decided against going to the courtyard, or the hill, simply because they would be far too busy on a day like this. he decided to go to starbucks. yes, that was a good idea.
after a short, easy walk, alex found himself inside starbucks. he kept his hood up, and walked over to the counter. he ordered a large cup of coffee, and watched as the guy behind the counter prepared it, his face bland and lifeless. clearly, he had no passion for his job. alex handed over some coins, thanked the guy with a smile, and found himself a table in the corner. still, alex's hood remained up. it wasn't to be awkward. it was quite simply a comfort thing.

Griffin had been wandering around some shops for quite a while, but she only had a few pounds left and couldn't afford much. Griffin walked around a corner and spotted starbucks. It had been weeks since she had gone in. Griffin kicked a stone that was in her way and stepped into starbucks. It was cooler than inside, mainly because of the air conditioning. Griffin stepped over to the counter and stared at a huge chocolate muffin. Biting her bottom lip Griffin pointed at it and smiled at the person behind the counter. He didn't seem to be having much fun.
Griffin dug her hand deep into her pocket and pulled out everything and dropped it onto the counter. It consisted of some big yellow buttons, scraps of paper, money, and a picture of her family. Griffin quickly picked it up and held it in her palm tightly. The money on the counter was twenty pence short, but the person behind let her off. Griffin collected her scraps of paper. Griffin shoved them in her pocket and glanced around the seating area to spot a seat. There were a few empty tables but they weren't exactly the nicest of tables to sit at, unless you liked being stuck up with all sorts. Just as Griffin was about to take the muffin out Griffin spotted a boy with a black hoodie. He looked a bit like Alex one of her good friends.Griffin walked over to check it was him before she at down, and it was. Griffin sat down at his table and licked her lips at the muffin.
"Hiya!" Griffin was glad to see Alex, she hadn't seen him in ages. "Where have you been hiding?"

"Hiya!"
alex looked up from his coffee, and grinned. "griffin!" he yelled. he jumped up from his seat and wrapped his arms around her, hugging her tightly. finally, he had found somebody he knew. and not just any random person. it was a fellow vampire, and one of his best friends, which made it that much better. he didn't even bother trying to hide his happiness. alex was just so pleased that he had found somebody to talk to. recently, it seemed like all of his friends had just been wiped away. but it was different now.
"Where have you been hiding?"
alex let griffin go, and sat back down. somehow, his hood had remained up, and up was where it would stay. "i should be asking you the same thing. i haven't seen anybody in so long!" he grinned. it was serious though. where had all his friends gone? where was lorena, holly, harry, roxie? all of them, just gone, as if they had been taken out by some private organization.
he forgot about his friends, for now, and took a sip of his coffee, making sure that he didn't drink too much. it was still scolding hot, and one wrong move could mean a burnt tongue. "so, what have you been up to? i can't remember the last time i saw you." alex smiled across at griffin. out of all of the friends that could have turned up, alex was glad that griffin showed up. he looked down at his coffee, swirling it around the mug as he waited.

Griffin jumped in surprise at Alex's outburst. Griffin looked around smiling uneasily at all of the eyes staring their way. When Alex let go, Griffin straightened her clothes and pulled her muffin closer. Then picking it up with both hands as her eyes widened in delight. Griffin opened her mouth wide as Alex began to talk. Griffin's pointed teeth dug into the light fluffy chocolate muffin. Biting off a quarter of the large muffin.
Griffin tried to chew the over sized mouthful of muffin to answer but it only ended up in nearly choking herself. What a way to die, Griffin thought. Dying because of a gorgeous muffin. Griffin managed to maneuver her mouth to create a smile. Griffin swallowed most of the muffin, and felt it go down her throat. After carefully chewing the rest Griffin finally answered both of Alex's questions. "Well, I haven't been doing much. Just going to the courtyard, getting bored and leaving, then realizing I get even more bored at other places so going back." Griffin let out a yawn before asking Alex the same question. Griffin pulled a chunk off her muffin and ate it. "Do you want some, it is heavenly. If all muffins were like this, I would be fat." Griffin giggled.

alex looked around at all the people staring at the two of them. he simply stared back, until they had averted their gaze elsewhere. he had nothing to apologize for. alex looked over at griffin, who was straightening her clothes. "sorry." he said, sticking his tongue out. it was a joke apology, alex knew it, and he guessed that griffin would too.
his face changed to a frown as he watched her bite off a quarter of the muffin, and then nearly choke. alex was about to ready to send the piece of muffin flying out of her mouth with his powers, but relaxed himself when he saw her smile. "griffin, you love muffins...way too much. calm down." he said, laughing.
"Well, I haven't been doing much. Just going to the courtyard, getting bored and leaving, then realizing I get even more bored at other places so going back."
alex smiled. he absolutely adored the courtyard. it was where he had first met lorena, another of his best friends that he hadn't seen in what seemed like an age. the courtyard was just the perfect place to sit back on a bench, relax and let the sounds of nature overwhelm your senses. it was great, and alex made a mental note in his head, reminding himself to go there sometime very, very soon.
"Do you want some, it is heavenly. If all muffins were like this, I would be fat."
he laughed, and patted his stomach. "oh no, none for me. i'm cutting down." alex grinned. vampires didn't even need to eat, so this showed that griffin was simply addicted to muffins. he smiled, just watching her devour that muffin was making him feel better. seeing griffin had made him so happy. the happiest he had been for a long, long while.

Griffin smiled at Alex's comment on her cal,=ming down. It had been a few days since her last muffin and she had to have one, and quick. If she had had enough money Griffin would have bought two, but she figured that some buttons wouldn't be enough. Griffin didn't know why Alex was cutting down on muffins. Especially this muffin. "I'm glad I'm not cutting down. It would be unbearable." Griffin grinned at Alex and ate the last few crumbs on her plate. Normally she would have licked it clean, but in public it would be a bit too embarrassing.
Griffin frowned at her empty plate then looked up at Alex. Who was listening to his Ipod, again. He never stopped. "My brother said he saw you in the boys bathroom." It wasn't the best of conversation starters, but it was something and it was the truth. Griffin smiled at Alex and watched as a waitress cleared her plate away.
