I realise that this does not in anyway apply to all of you, nor am I pointing the finger or trying to make you feel bad, but I'd like everyone to read this. I realise I may be patronizing you, but that's the way it is. Some of the members who have joined are new to the role playing experience, and this will help them understand.

The Idiot's Guide To Being Literate
A literate role player describes the setting, characters, and situation in detail. They aim to not use asterisk's (*) in their posts, and when talking out of character in a post that isn't in the specific out of character area, they use either the abbreviations (OOC, Ooc) or double brackets (( ))
Literate posts will not look like this;
*walks in nd chops ur hed of* haha ur ded
- Firstly, spelling is important. There's a spell check button at the bottom of your post if you're not sure, and you can always type a post out on a program with a spell checker, such as Microsoft Word, and then copy and paste it here.
- Secondly, never, under any circumstances, use an asterisk in a role play. Always describes your characters movements.
- Thirdly, no God-Moding/Power-Playing. You can't control another person's character, unless they have specifically told you that you can. And no-one is invincible, ever.
So, following the above guide, your literate post will look something like this.
The man, dressed entirely in black, entered the dark room, his weapon hidden by his thick coat. His face was hidden by the darkness, but you could still make out the evil glint in his eye as he drew his sword and took a swipe at his cowering opponent.
See how much better it is already? It's not brilliant, but it's a good start. Remember the more information and detail you put in, the more detailed the role play becomes. If you put lots of detail in, then the person/people your role playing with will have something to respond and reply to, and your thread will last much longer, and be a better thread.
There are also a few basic rules to follow in the guide to being literate.
- A role play is not this;
Person One;; I'm so excited for the party! Person Two;; I know! Person Three;; I'll get the balloons! Person Four;; And I'll bring the banners!
A role play is written in third person, like this...
Person One;; Helene fiddled with her skirt as she looked herself up and down in the mirror. It was almost time for her party, and the first guests would be arriving soon. Person Two;; Lorena took a deep breath and brushed down her dress, nervously flattening her hair, staring at the door of Helene's house. Person Three;; Meanwhile, a strange man, invisible in the dark, sureveyed the house with a pair of binoculars.
Your posts would be longer, and more detailed, but you get my drift.
- Don't God-Mod. God-Moding will not be tolerated, and persistant god-moding will result in a warning, possibly a temp ban. God-Moding is where you control or kill another person's character. You role play your character, and no one else's.
- Use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation. It makes your posts easier to read, and easier to reply to. No one wants to read a post that's badly spelt, ten lines long and yet it's all one sentence.
- When saying something out of character, you absolutely must use either double brackets (( )) or OOC/Ooc. However, please try to avoid this wherever possible, as there is a whole out of character board, and if you really feel the need to ask something, there is a rather handy thing called a Private Message, which makes the board a lot less cluttered.
- Post must be at least one paragraph long. One liners are not literate, and will not be tolerated.
- If you post in a role play thread out of character, there must be some role playing too. Like I've said, there's an out of character board.
I'm aware I may have repeated myself a little there, but it's really important that you read the rules and guide, as it will benifit you greatly.
I'm going to seem really strict, but if, in a thread, there are frequent one liners, illiterate posts, posts that are all out of character with no role playing, and generally doing the things I've told you not to do in this thread, I won't hesitate in locking it.
I'm going to lock any threads breaking these rules, and they will remain locked until the person breaking the rules is able to PM me telling me what they did wrong, then go back and edit their posts. After the thread has been locked, you have a week to PM me, else I'll just archive it.
If you think your thread has been locked/archived unfairly, or you'd like to know my reasoning for locking/archiving the thread, then please don't hesitate to PM me. If you'd like to say anything about this thread, then again, PM me and I'll be more than happy to answer anything you may want to ask.
Thanks =) [/blockquote]
